Six Port Angeles High School Juniors receive recognition from Soroptimist Noon ClubSoroptimists of Port Angeles Noon Club presented winter 2018 STAR Awards to Port Angeles High School eleventh grade students at Joshua’s Restaurant on Friday, January 19. Twice a year, the club honors juniors from Port Angeles High School who are elected by their teachers. STAR stands for Student Activity Recognition, explained Jeri Bawden, Soroptimist education committee chair. Students must demonstrate effort and willingness to work, as well as maintain a passing/above average grade.

Students, joined by their parents, attended the luncheon, as well as the teachers who nominated them. Each teacher spoke about their selected student, and then each student was given the opportunity to talk about themselves and what career path they are interested in pursuing. Each student paid homage to their parents, and thanked the club for the award opportunity.

Soroptimist president Tammy Gallagher presented each student with a certificate. The club will have a plaque engraved with names of the latest honorees, which will be hung on permanent display at Port Angeles High School. Another STAR event will be held in the spring.
