PAHS Art Club Field Trip to Seattle on December 7The Port Angeles High School Art Club, accompanied by teacher Shawne Johnson, took a field trip to the Pioneer Square gallery walk after school on Thursday, December 7.  “We took 13 students to tour the historic arts district of Seattle and enjoyed contemporary and traditional art forms,” said Johnson.  “Students also watched an ice sculpting competition in Occidental Square, saw carolers dressed in traditional Charles Dickens period costumes, and listened to buskers and jazz performers as they posted up around the square during the evening.”

“We had a couple students who had never been on a ferry before, or to Seattle.  The ferry ride coming home (to Bainbridge) in the dark provided a spectacular view of Downtown Seattle’s well-lit skyline!”

“The art work was world class, the conversations rich and timely.  One installation artist even had a dress up photo booth and the kids had free prints of themselves in goofy costumes together,” continued Johnson.  “They had a blast!”

Johnson gives special thanks to Allyson Schilke for driving and chaperoning students, braving the parking situation in the downtown area with her, and to Principal Jeff Clark for supporting this work and exploration.
