Community Update 9/26/16
Greetings Parents and Guardians!
This is the second of a series of community updates to facilitate communication home.
Fall is in the air and a successful Homecoming Week is in the bag. Kudos to our Leadership Students, their Adviser Pam Helpenstell, and our Class Advisers for all of the work they put into a positive week of Homecoming events, culminating in Saturday evening’s dance, which was attended by over 500 well-behaved and celebrating students.
College Fair Wednesday, September 28
Colleges and other post-secondary training organizations will be represented at this year’s College Fair coming up this Wednesday morning in the main gym. This is a good opportunity to discuss post-high school planning with your student. Students will be prepared in their morning classes to visit with college representatives, and will be provided with sample questions to use as icebreakers when they visit with the college reps.
Open House –Wednesday, September 28
Open House, or Back to School Night, is our annual event that allows parents an opportunity to follow their student’s schedule and meet each of the student’s teachers to learn about the high school instructional program. Open house will begin promptly at 7pm with parents reporting to their student’s advisory teacher’s classroom, where they will receive a copy of the student’s schedule. Parents will then follow their student’s schedule, spending 10 minutes with each teacher with 5 minutes between sessions to move from room to room.
We also have combined Freshmen Parent Night with Open House to save the Freshmen Parents from having to come out on two separate nights. Freshman Parent Night will begin at 6:15 in the library. Counselors will present important information that will help parents help their freshman be successful in their high school career at PAHS.
Drive One 4 Your School Fundraiser Sunday, October 2nd
Did you know that Price Ford and the Ford Motor Company have donated over $30,000 to PAHS sports, clubs, and activities over the years through the Drive One 4 Your School fundraiser? This year’s Drive One event is Sunday, October 2nd from 10am to 4pm at the high school. We really need one driver from each Roughrider family to come and take a test drive October 2nd. There is zero sales pressure at these events.
Attendance Supervisor Requests
If your student is returning to school after an absence, arriving late to school, or needs to be dismissed from school for an appointment, please send a note to the attendance office.
Clallam County Teen Court 2016/2017
There will soon be an opportunity for interested students to participate in this year’s Clallam County Teen Court. Teen Court is a real court, run by student volunteers that help to fashion the appropriate consequences for juveniles involved in the criminal justice system. This program offers a fun and safe
environment for students to develop skills, make a positive impact on the community, and meet
students from other schools! It’s also a great way for students to get volunteer service hours. If you
want to know more, then (1) look for next month’s newsletter, (2) attend the upcoming open house, (3)
encourage your student to visit the Teen Court booth at an upcoming lunch, and/or (4) contact the lead
Teen Court Coordinator – Kim Burns: (360) 565-2636.
